Assessment & Evaluation

Class Outcomes

  • Demonstrate an understanding of:

    • The types of higher education accreditation and accreditation processes.

    • Outcomes assessment and institutional effectiveness movement, including an analysis of the forces behind the movement.

    • Assessment components, effective developmental outcome statements, and the methods and techniques used in assessment.

    • The skills necessary to develop an assessment program which meets typical state or regional requirements.

  • Demonstrate the ability to:

    • Identify the purposes and role of assessment in student affairs and higher education.

  • Demonstrate identification of:

    • The effective use of assessment results and the requirements for a comprehensive assessment program.

    • Problems associated with outcomes assessment and institutional effectiveness.

Assessment Plan

  • Purpose: Create an institutional profile and choose a functional area. Create a mission statement, one goal, and one developmental outcome for this functional area.

  • Guidelines: Include the elements of the functional area mission and developmental outcomes that were discussed in this unit.
