Assistant Director for Transfer Initiatives for the Office of Admissions

University of Arkansas at Little Rock // Aug. 2018 — Present

  • Develop and coordinate programs to inform and assist prospective transfer students from six Central Arkansas community colleges throughout the onboarding process.

  • Maintain relationships with two-year transfer liaisons, TRIO staff, advising staff, and other stakeholders to clearly articulate the role of UA Little Rock in achieving an affordable education.

  • Collaborate with the Associate Director of Admissions and Director of Admissions to ensure prospective transfer student support for each new program and attend debriefing sessions.

  • Collaborate with other campus departments and offices to deliver effective programming to prospective students.

  • Continually monitor UA Little Rock brand and inform administration of opportunities for improvement.

  • Identified the need for transfer information in the campus tour program and wrote a programming proposal for a Transfer Friday, a monthly campus tour exclusively for transfers that incorporates financial aid information, support services, and academic appointments.

  • Regularly visit schools in my territory to deliver presentations and individual assistance in a variety of settings to diverse audiences.

  • Reports annually about the student populations in my territory, the advantages and challenges of recruiting in this area, and recruitment strategies to increase success.

  • Help keep the inventory updated for recruitment publications and tour materials.

  • Maintain consistent communication with prospective students through email correspondence and ongoing support, one-on-one phone conversations, and in-person meetings.

  • Create preliminary outlines for student and counselor communications and collaborate with other recruitment staff members to develop communication plans for the new academic year.

  • Developed an admissions video marketing campaign for the 2018-2019 academic year to promote UA Little Rock and its programs to prospective students.

  • Recorded film and voiceovers and edited videos used in the admissions video marketing campaign, which will be featured in emails to prospective students and the admissions social media outreach.
     

Recruitment Counselor for the Office of Admissions

University of Arkansas at Little Rock // Aug. 2016 — August 2018 

  • As recruitment coordinator, responsible for maintaining positive working relationships with 72 Arkansas high school counselors and nine community college representatives.

  • Hosted over 50 campus tours to prospective students and their families, including presentations about UA Little Rock.

  • More than recorded 2,400 interactions with students about UA Little Rock during my 210 recruitment activities from September 2016-May 2018.

  • Increased the number of enrolled Tennessee students from one (fall 2016) to six students (fall 2017) by highlighting both in-state tuition rates for unconditional admission and scholarship opportunities.

  • Increased the number of applicants from Greene County from four in 2016 and three in 2017 to 14 in 2018 due to a strong relationship with the counselors and the class of 2018 as juniors and seniors.

  • Visit high schools and community colleges to recruit students, working college fairs as well as presenting at college-day events.

  • Wrote more than 30 communications emails for the recruitment communication plan that were sent by the recruitment team through Talisma CRM.

  • Assist with the development of recruitment strategies and projects.

  • Collaborate with other campus departments and offices with recruiting activities.

  • Report and track recruiting activities.

  • Provide and assist prospective students and visitors with the UA Little Rock application process for admissions, financial aid, and the BOSS student database system.

  • Provided editing suggestions for the current publications used by the Office of Admissions, including the current visitors guide and information booklet, to make the content more student-friendly.

  • Wrote an article for the visitors guide that provided prospective students with information about the accessibility to a flexible education through the main campus, satellite campus, and online campus.

  • Researched the current trends in published communications among five of our competitors’ admissions publications and presented my findings to the director and two associate directors of admissions, including suggestions for improving future publications.

  • Partnered with another recruitment coordinator to create a plan for future UA Little Rock admissions publications based on the findings of my research and the suggestions of the recruitment team.

  • Provide students and visitors with information about UA Little Rock, admissions requirements, and undergraduate programs of study.

  • Provide excellent customer service to visitors to the Office of Admissions.

  • Developed learning objectives and assessment methods for the ambassador training program.

  • Developed a list of ambassador training ideas for the previous tour coordinator, including five learning objectives, four icebreakers, and two hands-on activities to teach the tour route and script.

  • Attended the presentations of four Recruitment Coordinator candidates, two VC of Enrollment candidates, and two AVC Enrollment Planning candidates, and provided feedback to the interview committees.

  • Taught 78 college freshmen important study and life skills,as well as how to utilize campus resources to support a successful college experience in CSP 1013: Principles of College Success during the fall semester.

  • Educated 14 college freshmen about attitudes of resiliency and growth mindset as well as habits of successful college students in TECH 1001: Orientation to the University.

  • Utilized student development theory and counseling knowledge to assess the needs of students in order to engage a diverse group during activities, lectures, and mentoring on topics such as learning skills, careers and majors, and communication and relationships.

  • Prepared students for academic advising meeting by reviewing degree plans, course catalogs, key terms and concepts, available courses for the upcoming semester, creating options for schedules, and tips for a successful meeting.

  • Developed and implemented lessons that provided students with an understanding of their personal strengths, weaknesses, and goals in order to research options for compatible careers.

  • Created assessment surveys and data analysis reports for Spring 2016 educational workshops as well as the midterm and end of semester course surveys.

  • Composed letters of recommendation for students applying for scholarships.

  • In the students' Fall 2015 end of course evaluations, 92% agreed that performance as an instructor was excellent.

 

Practicum Student for Fraternity & Sorority Life

  • Developed a research instrument in the form of a longitudinal survey, which will assess the impact of membership and leadership in a Greek organization at Arkansas Tech University on the skills employers have identified as vital to career success. 

  • Facilitated a presentation about research project to a group of faculty, staff, and students, which included an overview of the research guiding the project, the development of the instrument, and personal suggestions for its future application to programming in Greek Life as well as Campus Life.

  • Provided resources for a social media seminar focused on effectively using social media, brand development for student groups, and creating a marketing plan.

  • Created a programming proposal for 120 residents participating in the FYE LLC in collaboration with two Residence Life representatives, two College Student Personnel instructors, and five members of the LLC Hall Staff, which focused on counseling skills, leadership development, and community service opportunities.

  • Developed and implemented an assessment survey for residents to and incorporated feedback and suggestions into the programming proposal.

Student Worker for Greek Life

  • Assisted the Interim Greek Life Coordinator by updating records, creating online systems of communication with students, and doing any other task that was needed.

  • Formally evaluated the progress and needs of the Interfraternity Council, which served 92 students in four fraternities, and provided the council with advice and suggestions for moving forward according to the council's goals at the time.

  • Provided advice to the six Panhellenic executive council members on important issues and interpreted their bylaws as well as National Panhellenic Conference's Manual of Information in relation to the council's concerns.

Panhellenic Vice President of Gamma Phi Beta

  • Served as the Gamma Phi Beta delegate for the College Panhellenic Council.

  • Created an atmosphere of leadership strength by teaching five executive officers the importance and influence of their positions on the other 50 chapter members by implementing weekly round table discussions on relevant topics.

  • Promoted community spirit within Gamma Phi Beta during Homecoming Week by presenting the expected behaviors of good sportsmanship.

  • Constructed a bylaw which gave the chapter a wider pool for the selection of leadership candidates as well as a plan of action for potential leaders who do not meet the grade requirement during elections, and composed this information in a letter of recommendation for the area advisor
    of Gamma Phi Beta.

 

Community Outreach Chair of Greek Programming Board

  • Created a competition, spanning the spring semester, for the eight member organizations which promoted school spirit, community outreach, in addition to a new social media presence for the Greek Life Office.

  • Maintained that the 220 fraternity and sorority community members followed the Greek Week guidelines during competitions as well as update and promote the events via social media.

  • Assisted in writing the script for the Greek Week Awards Banquet, and presented the awards at the event.

 

President of College Panhellenic Council

University of Arkansas - Fort Smith // Jan. — Dec. 2012

  • Collaborated with four other executive council members and three chapter delegates to create short-term goals for each semester as well as long-term goals for the year.

  • Created a working business calendar, spanning the semester, in order for council members to stay accountable to the goals and needs of the community and to keep the 125 Panhellenic  members informed.

  • Mentored council members, acted as a support system, and provided guidance and ideas for carrying out their responsibilities as successfully as possible.

  • Assisted in the Panhellenic-sponsored alcohol safety awareness event, featuring a keynote speaker from CampusSpeak, as well as relationship violence and prevention, by a speaker from a local women's shelter, with approximately 150 students in attendance.

  • Updated the Panhellenic constitution and bylaws, including the positions, responsibilities and duties, and election process.

Vice President of Recruitment for College Panhellenic Council

University of Arkansas - Fort Smith // Jan. — Dec. 2011

  • Composed the year's formal recruitment rules, visited the two chapters in order to answer any questions before voting, and created compromises on any changes in the rules during voting.

  • Created an interactive recruitment counselor selection process, which evaluated the strengths, weaknesses, and pre-training knowledge of 12 applicants.

  • Implemented the first two-day training retreat for the 7 recruitment counselors as well as creating a counselor handbook for use during and outside of the retreat.

  • Worked with the Greek community (180 members), Interfraternal Council, and five campus faculty on promoting and carrying out recruitment related events and public relations during a time when the Greek Life Advisor position was vacant.

  • Collaborated with the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and the Vice President of Recruitment for the Interfraternity Council on the planning of a Go-Greek night for 60 potential new members and 25 parents before formal recruitment took place.

  • Reviewed the information submitted by twelve of the Panhellenic sororities wishing to join our campus, and assisted in choosing four to present to the Panhellenic community.

  • Interviewed each of the four sorority's extension teams in order to obtain more information on how their sorority would benefit the needs of potential new members.

  • Collaborated with the six other committee members for the creation of a formal recommendation of which two sororities best met the needs of the community, which was presented to each chapter.

Vice President of Records for College Panhellenic Council

  • Created the first budget for the Panhellenic Council as well as a format for future budgets.

  • Implemented a Panhellenic fund raising event with 50 participants in order to keep dues down for the 100 chapter members as well as potential new members during recruitment.

  • Designed a template for officer transition notebooks so that the four executive council officers could easily transition their predecessors.

  • Streamlined the creation and distribution of records and weekly minutes for the four council officers, two delegates, and the Greek Life Advisor.

Counselor for Cub Camp

  • Worked with a group of  five counselors to create a fun, educational "welcome" weekend for approximately 30 incoming freshmen or "campers."

  • Focused on integrating the 75 campers into the college environment on campus, including passing on knowledgeof campus lingo and traditions.

  • Ensured my "den group" of eight campers felt connected to the campus and to other students during the weekend.
