Class Outcomes

  • Demonstrate an understanding of:

    • General expectations for graduate students, as outlined in ATU Student Handbook.

    • Professional development activities that will help them become competent student affairs professionals. 

    • Current issues and best practices in the field of student affairs.

  • Demonstrate an ability to:

    • Analyze case studies and be able to put theories into practical application. 

    • Synthesize, demonstrate, and apply your knowledge base as an emerging student affairs professional in the core areas of the CSP curriculum.

    • Describe and communicate your personal profile of professional qualities and skills.

    • Critically evaluate their knowledge base of the basic core competencies for the profession and explain how they will work toward expanding their knowledge to more advanced levels.

Resume/LinkedIn Profile

  • Purpose: Create a LinkedIn Profile to potentially use during job search.

  • Guidelines: Complete the profile, include information from resume, and have at least one individual write a recommendation about you on your profile.

Participation

  • Purpose: Create an original post on discussion board to the prompt provided and reply to three other classmates' postings.

  • Guidelines: Students will share experiences and knowledge from the assigned topics.

 

Practice Comprehensive Exam

  • Purpose: Demonstrate an ability to dissect case studies and practically apply knowledge and theories from core courses in the College Student Personnel program.

  • Guidelines: Student will use the prompt provided to develop a response that demonstrates her knowledge of the student affairs profession. Students may use sources if cited. Suggested time to complete is under four hours to replicate testing conditions for the final comprehensive exam.

Professional Development Activities

 

E-Portfolio Part 1

  • Purpose: Students will be asked to either develop or update their electronic portfolio using a free web-site that showcases their identity as a student affairs professional.

  • Guidelines: Students will need to identify 8 of the 10 professional competencies and explain, in their own words, a concise summary of what each of the 8 professional competencies selected is basically addressing. For each of the 8 competencies selected, attach (electronically) at least two (2) separate pieces of physical evidence showing how they have learned/mastered this particular competency area. Provide a resume tab on your e-folio and have uploaded your most current resume to the tab in pdf. format.

E-Portfolio Part 2

  • Purpose: Students will be asked to either develop or update their electronic portfolio using a free web-site that showcases their identity as a student affairs professional.

  • Guidelines: Reflect back upon experiences in graduate school and how the student will use these experiences to be a better professional. Student will be asked to write/blog a personal reflection describing their graduate experience.
