One of my most adamant beliefs is that people should pursue their passions and dreams. We live in a time when there are so many resources available that it seems nonsensical not take advantage!
Right now, I have a few easy ways to add some personal development into my life. All of these can be utilized when you have a few spare minutes or even when getting ready for work in the morning. Maybe you will be inspired to learn something new, too!

If you are like me and are interested in incorporating some positive psychology into your life, consider the Five Minute Journal. You can either buy it as a book or save the cash and get the much cheaper app.
Simply put, you just answer a few questions in the morning (What three things are you grateful for? What would make today great? What are today's Daily Affirmations?) and then two more that night (What are three amazing things that happened today? How could you have made today better?). You literally spend five minutes of your entire day on both tasks, and it has really made me reflect on the good things happening in my life!
Think about it this way: You are taking a few minutes to make an assessment of your life--what do you want your outcomes to be?
Attention, SA pros, we have a free educational resource that could change your life! That's right, free. Duolingo is a game that teaches you a new language. For. Free.
You can learn Spanish, French, Hindi, Polish, and even Klingon! You set goals for how many points you want to earn that day, and each lesson or "level" has five bars to let you know how much you are retaining of that lesson. Therefore, it can be pretty addictive to try to keep them at golden status (full bars). Currently, I am 15% fluent in Spanish. iPuedo hablar español!
So, take an interest in one of the languages of a student group on campus, and make a connection with students that will last beyond their higher education.
Podcasts
That's right, podcasts are still a thing. They are great resources of education, inspiration, and entertainment. I listen to them while getting ready, during my work commute, and while cleaning at home. I probably spend more time listening to these than watching TV.
Some great podcasts you may want to check out? For free professional development, catch Higher Ed Live and The Student Affairs Spectacular. If you want to start the day off with a huge dose of positivity, The Lively Show features content centered around "Values-based Intentions." NPR's TED Radio Hour and Cool Things Entrepreneurs Do are two of my favorite podcasts for times when I want to learn something new and exciting.
So, I encourage you to try one or more of these resources to make your life just a little bit richer. Maybe your interests are a little bit different; I encourage you to find websites, podcasts, apps, articles, whatever you stumble upon, that will ignite your passion and make you a happier person.
What hobbies or topics get you excited? How do you incorporate them into your busy life? Let me know in the comments below!
